Would you buy Mapopolis again, why or why not? If not what software would you go with? Please post your country.

Definitely. It is still the fastest and most robust software on the market. I like the fact that I can load maps from the web, even while I am on the road. I like the small memory footprint. I like the fact that it is still useful offroad, with the GPS status screen showing all required information like altitude, heading , crow distance to target etc..

It's certainly not the nicest or most user friendly application, but it's definitely the geekiest.

I have been using Mapopolis for a little while and have a couple of complaints.

1) The voice. I downloaded 4.33 & Crystal, while the voice is better it is not great and 4.42 is faster.

2) The routing. I am not happy with the routes it chooses. I have played with the options and can see the changes. But still the routes are not what I would consider logical.

So with those 2 complaints and the requirement that I be able to plan my routes offline what is my best Navigation Choice?

I bought CPL5 and Mapopolis within a couple weeks of eachother (MN first). I liked MN from the start (even though it can be a little hard to learn) and just today returned CPL5. My primary reason was map and address data.

If my MN subscription was up, I'd renew today.

yes, CoPilot may have the newer maps, but the ones in Mapopolis are closer to real life, especially when it comes to streets with multiple names and spellings.

Based on sgt-spam's review and the overall price of Co-Pilot I think I am going to pass on CPL5.

Now it is time to decide between Destinator 3 & Mapopolis.

Most important features are:

1) Offline routing
2) Good routing alogrythm, the more route customizations/choices available the better (shortes route, fastest, least turn, permanant avoid, etc.)
3) Good quality voice directions.
4) Up to date/accurate maps.
5) If there is anyway to specify a road closure/accident while in route and have the software reroute that would be excellent.

1. both are ok there . Mapopolis has route optimization
2 Mapopolis has more options
3. Destinator has WAV voice prompts. Better quality, less data
4. same level. mapopolis has better accuracy
5. I f I recall correctly Destinator has that. Mapopolis doesn't have avoids en route.

For good straight forward navigation without all the bells and whistles I would use Mapopolis every time

The newest version (4.55) is a huge improvement, with Avoids now added, and POI alerts. Well worth checking out again.

I have been using Mapopolis for a couple of weeks and have been very pleased with it - basically it does everything I want at a good price.

They also seem to be very open to user feedback, which is something that other gps manufacturers might want to learn from.

Cheers

Chris

How much of a difference is between the PalmOS and the PocketPC version? I'm a Palm user and the program version on PocketPC is much higher (4.x) than on Palm (2.x) - is the PalmOS as good as the PocketPC?

How good (actual) are the European Maps? Are they maptech as well?

I can't help with the PalmOS questions, but the maps are Navtech and seem fine to me -they are not as 'pretty' as some of the competition but seem to work fine.

Mapopolis offer a free trial limited to 9 days by the demo maps - it's well worth downloading it and having a play, and see if it suits you.

HTH,

Chris
