hi guys.

didnt know which forum to post this, so mods please move if this is in the incorrect place.

anyway. im not sure if this has been covered before, but i was just thinking what is more effective, having the camera database installed with tomtom or using a Road Angel device?

i already own TomTom GO and have installed the camera database in it and works fine, ( so far so good)

but ive been offered a Road Angel, at a reasonable price,

so i thought of using the ROad angel as the camera detector and just using the TomTom Go for my sat navving.

what are your opinions? is it worth the extra layout for the road angel or does the camera database do just as good a job as the road angel?

Cheers!

Just ask yourself, how many times have you driven past a camera that wasn't present using the database from this site, to date (been using it for 9 months) and only once, when I downloaded the update two days later it was there so no point in sending an update, with thousands of users this is an incredible set-up - every credit to the people who set it up, in contrast I am sure the road angel is a very good product but is it updated anywhere near as regular as this one - many thanks to those who keep it all going - great work - Mike

Why have two units in the car when the TomTom with the camera database does exactly the same job as the road angel, but naviates at the same time?!

Also, the update software for the road angel doesnt even let you know what date the database was updated. You basically update it, but never know what has been changed if anything.

I bought a Road Angel about a month before getting a PDA with Tomtom. I now use both, but if I had got Tomtom first I would not have bothered with the Road Angel.

Advantages of Tomtom with camera database:

1. Free plug in, no costly subscription.
2. More up to date.
3. Shows speed limit at camera location.
4. Warns you if breaking speed limit - with checkpoint.
5. You can easily tell if its a false alarm on parallel road.
6. More accurate display of distance to camera - with checkpoint.
7. More configureable regarding beeps etc..
8. Does not flash hysterically when near camera
9. PDA/Tomtom/GPS/In car kit cost same as Road Angel
10. Does not have extra strong magnet in unit trying to wipe all your credit cards!
11. Has built in battery.
12. Nearly forgot... it navigates as well Smile plus a zillion other things

Advantages of Road Angel:

1. Nice big speed display
2. Accident Black Spot warning
3. Supposed to detect radar and lasers on moble units - never seen this working though
4. just plug it in and it works

I really only use the Road Angel as a very expensive, but highly accurate and clear speedo now.

Hope that helps

Yeah i would say that the tomtom with the pocketgps speedcamera database is fine and you would be wasting your money buying a roadangel. If you dont feel confident in using one device and have the money they buy the road angel, you could always sell it on again.
