TTG 700 - surely this cannot be right?

The thing is, if you go to TomTom's website and change the country version to English US or Australian, you'll see that they're offering the 700 in the US too (but not Oz).

But, when you add up the memory size of the map data, it is far less than the size of the hard drive. I know the app is on there too, but could this mean that the 700 gets shipped with all map data on it, but just unlocked for the relevant region?

Alternatively, if it's possible for the 700 to be seen as a removable device by a PC, couldn't you buy the map data for another region, and transfer it across?

Apologies if this has completely lowered the level of this thread - but thought I'd post anyway ;-)

I suppose if I were to get a 500 and a 4GB SD card then it would hold the whole of Europe and the USA - would it all fit on a 4gb?

So far, the USA maps are not available, so this talk is all very theoretical.

If and when they do become available, you will find that the Major Roads map is suprisingly detailed (200 and some mb). This plus a regional or state map should do nicely. Heavens, who would need the entire country at street level.

ok im lost a little here. if the maps are not available how come the TTG is sold in the USA? Also I see on ebay for about £130 people are selling SD cards with USA mapping
