Hi Everyone

Having lurkd about tis site and forum for ages I finally took the plunge and bought a tom tom package along woth a 256M SD card and and IPAQ 3970. I hope you guys dont mind yet anothet newbie question but I would really like a couple of things cleard up.

1- I drive a peugeot 406 saloon ( yeah I know but it gets great MPG) and I dont seem to be able to get a relibale signal with the Tom Tom aerial inside, Stuck on the roof its brill, my question therefore is does Tom Tom have an external aerial you can buy or has anyone got any other recommendations about this signal problem.

2- I have loaded the full Great Britain map onto he SD card and is is WAY slow for finding places etc ( this may be normal so I just thought I had better check) I do have a CF sleeve and card and was wondering if that would be quicker.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give and thanks to those experts that take the time to answer newbis like me, Without all the other information on the site and forum I wouldnever have taken the plunge in the fits place.

Best Regards

Ray G

Ray,

1) you probably have a thermal/heat reflective windscreen which is causing the problem. Take a look at our Re-Rad Reviews. These are Re-Radiating Antennas, you stick a little square antenna onto the roof of the car, and feed the cable inside, and power this antenna and place a stick antenna on the dashboard within 45cm of the TomTom (Leadtek) Receiver and it should boost your signal. The other alternative is to leave the Leadtek receiver on the roof when you want to use it (it is waterproof). Check out our Re-Rad Reviews. The in-car re-rad is pretty good!

2) CF is a little faster from a data transfer rate point of view, but searching can take a little while

Worth pointing out that iPaq 3970's with up-to-date ROM's have trouble accessing the SD card quickly. Original ROM's work better. You can downgrade to the original ROM from the Compaq website.

Thanks for the info Guys and I just thought I would let everyone know that I ordered a re radiating antenna from PC Mobile via the web on

http://www.pc-mobile.net/gps.htm

The order was placed on the 21st May and it arrived this morning 23rd may. I fitted this to my set up and Bingo it works a treat, at least 5 bars on the GPS status screen all with High power. Suffice to say that without your advice and PC-Mobiles superb customer service my first foray in GPS may have been very fraught.

Thanks again and I am now off to look at that ROM downgrade.

Cheers
