TomTom's Own Safety Camera Database.

I've haven't seen a post about this, so here's one Smile

I've just subscribed to this, so I thought I'd post a few details about it.

You get the option to either download it to your PC, or download it via TomTom straight from the PPC. The downloaded ZIP contains 30/40/50/60/70/All/Other databases.

I assume other is for uncatagorised cameras. I also downloaded via TomTom which was extreamly painless. Once downloaded it give you the option of installing any combination of the above (plus one called demo!). I chose All.

I then added a warning (there are a lot of sounds to chose from, which are already in the TT5 application). That's it, it just worked.

The cameras were zoned (despite me chosing All), so I would think most people will be happy with the All selection. So far I've only seen one camera which wasn't in the database, but then I haven't tested it much.

Have you tried the PocketGPSWorld camera database?

If you have, was the missing camera in our database? How does the TomTom database compare to the PocketGPSWorld camera database, in your area?

What is your area, could you please update your profile to include country and county?

Does the TomTom version recognise your direction of travel, (ie. does it only warn you of cameras that are pointing in your direction and not give false alarms for ones on the other side of the road) as most of the stand alone modules such as Road Angle do?

sounds good, does it tell you the road speed limit and current speed, if so this would be great as sometimes its hard to tell the speed limits.

as you cant do this with the gps world database can you?

Bloxy: you can set it to just pick up POI's (inc speed cameras) on your route, so there aren't any false alarms... but I wouldn't because some of the PGPS database cam positions aren't that accurate and could be missed

Nick: few questions....
what audio files came with the database ?
are they spoken or those cr*ppy beeps ?
where are they stored on you PPC and what file extension do they have ?

I just converted my cam warning audio files to Vorbis .ogg format and wondered if they would work ?

I'm still not sure if the new subscription based TT does the same as Road Angel, Road Pilot etc.

Having tried PIO warner and the PGPS database on an earlier version of Navigator, if I am aproaching a Gatso on the opposite side of the road facing me it would give a camera warning though that camera cannot detect me as I am travelling toward it and Gatso only works when travelling away from it. My Road Angel knows which direction I am traveling and which direction the camera points so only warns me of the camera on my side of the road not the ones pointing towards me. Is TT Navigator and Speed Camera subscription as smart?

I was going to go for a GO 700 to do everthing untill I found that the claimed coverage of Ireland was not true and is no different to that offered in TT Nav 5 (Major Roads only, compltely useless) so I have just ordered the upgrade and will stick with my Ipaq.

My Road Angel is also my GPS receiver but it is faulty and I need to replace it. So do I buy a new GPS camera detector such as Talex with a GPS feed to My Ipaq and Navigator or do I trust to TT Speed Camera (or PGPS) and a simple GPS receiver?
