Tomtom resetting itself

I have now experienced this twice. Tomtom 3 loses all settings and my custom area avoids are all gone. What files stores this information? I want to back up my settings.

The 'countrymap.cfg' file in the Navigator folder.

Someone else posted a similar reply to my question on where the settings are stored. I have to say that this didn't work for me.

I backed up the Creag_Britain.cfg file, reinstalled, then copied it back (over the new one that was in there) and my settings were NOT restored.

Am I doing something wrong?
