communication timeout

HARDWARE: IPAQ hx4700; ATRONIX BTGPS01 receiver
SOFTWARE: MEMORY MAP

Memory-Map is persistently showing the message, 'Communication timeout'.
Sometimes it will show the GPS location/cursor. Most often it will not at the moment.

Please can anyone explain exactly what communication timeout means and kindly offer a solution because there seeminly is nothing in the software which indicates how to resolve this issue.

That error suggests a problem opening the COM Port or communicating with the GPS connected to it.

Do you have any other GPS software installed?

Yes Darren, there is VisualGPSce which comes with the receiver software. Are you going to suggest this should be closed first?

Yes, it is possible that VisualGPSCE is still running, perform a soft reset and then try launching Memory-Map.

Genius, Darren. That's it. One needs to go straight from the connections screen to Memory-Map and all seems fine. That has resolved a big head-ache. Many thanks indeed.

On a separate issue, where can one get information on hard-wiring power supply for the IPAQ in the car please.?

The iPAQ needs a 5v supply so don't cut off the cigarette lighter plug as it is this that reduces the 12v to 5v.

Either wire in a cigarette lighter extension cable and plutg into this or buy a dedicated hard wire cradle such as the ones Brodit sell that is designed to be wired directly to a 12v accessory feed.
