Has anyone tried this wav file for speed cams as there done seem to be much mention of it in the forums .. its at the bottom of this page http://www.getoutguide.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/poidownloads/... i have tried it and it works a treat... much better than the chime sound . but i find that you have to put it in the "sound" folder to get it to work and not were stated fot the icn.

What device are you using?

Many people have reported that custom sounds won't work with the 510 for example.

And do you still get voice guidance after a camera warning?

Others have told me that if any custom sound file is used on the iCN510 it disables voice guidance hence why I have added a note to that effect in the download file.
Could it be because they have not followed the instructions properly?

If you have successfully got it to work i'm sure other 510 users will be interested to hear about it in detail.

Ok here's how i done it: You can do it as well, This is for the navman 510.

1. download the voice files (male and female) from the website as shown earlier.
2.Extract the files to a folder on the desktop.
3. Make sure that your icn is attached to your pc and switched on.
4.Open microsoft active sync
5.Click on explore / Storage Card / navman / My POI
6. Copy and Paste either the male or female wav file into the POI FOLDER
7. Rename the wav file to..... "DEFAULT.WAV"... (or it wont work).. omitting the exclamation marks.
8 Reboot the navman and you should now have a talking voice instead of a ding-dong.
9. Now say "thankyou Mr Ferret Laughing

I am a little confused now.
You are downloading and using my zip file located at the link in my sig so naturally I would like to get the instructions for using the sounds correct!

You initially stated:
ferret79 wrote:
but i find that you have to put it in the "sound" folder to get it to work and not were stated fot the icn.

Then later you stated:
ferret79 wrote:

So I need clarification, are the wav files placed in the 'MY POI' folder or 'sound' folder?

Initially the .wav files would work on the 6xx range but not 510 now it appears to be the opposite.
As I do not have an iCN I am relying on users to advise otherwise I may as well remove the sound zip from the download page to avoid confusion

Thanks in advance.

I'd also like some clarification.

I've tried the sound wav. files on their own, in a folder, with their own name, with "DEFAULT.wav", in the "POI Folder", in the "Sound Folder" and I still only get the default chime sound when approaching a camera using the "Route Demostrator".

I have tried the above file and all was well to begin with, but after it gave spoken warning, the voice directions stopped, as warned in readme file. Now is this because I put it in MyPoi Dir and not the Sound folder? Its times like this when wish I lived near a camera (almost)

I realise that this thread is very old now, but to any new 510 owners, I've tried this and it works fine.

I placed a custom .wav file in the mypoi folder on the storage card and tried it in both simulation mode and for real. I got voice guidance up to the camera site, then got my custom .wav to warn me of the camera location, then the voice directions continued. I followed the instructions in ferret's post.

Much better than the "chime" sound.

I diddn't bother with any of the voices suggested in the thread, I modified an existing .wav and saved it as 8 bit mono and it worked fine.

As a result of your success I tried it on my 520, following the instructions to the letter.

As soon as the gatso warning had been given, the Nav(wo)man instructions ceased.

Perhaps there is a fundamental difference between the 510 and 520 as far as this is concerned.

nortonbeak,

I couldn't say if it's a difference between the 510 and the 520?? I take it your 520 is running SmartST 2005?? If so, maybe that's the issue??

Is the .wav you used 8 bit mono?? PM me and I'll email you the.wav I used.
