Der can i just clarifie a few points, there is now an up grade which is available for the standard, Gb maps which includes major routes of Europe. This however is only available on an Sd card ? At about £60
But in the pipe line there are new maps of Gb due to be released in the not to distant future.

Sorry just deciding which way to go.

By the way Thanks your a life line, with all your help and advice.

There are only one set of maps for Version 5 for the UK. There are not any new maps in the pipeline. There will not be any other maps of the UK available. These are the same maps as are shipping with the GO300.

The confusion may be over the release of the Maps of Western Europe. These should be the same data as the GB maps on the SD card.

Just a simple question ...
Are we sure all the maps for the different countries were updated ?

I'm mainly interested to know what in the Benelux Map was updated ...

I dont post an awful lot, but the hype around tomtom v5, and the new maps has forced me to the keyboard Smile

I love my ttgo, and will be upgrading to the new maps. main feature/benefit for me is the postcodes.

My main moan, is the price difference. How can Tomtom justify a greater amount of money for the upgrade to the SINGLE GB map, and then charge LESS, to upgrade 12 or 13 maps (i.e. the whole of western europe!) which INCLUDES the map of GB we are paying more for!!!

I would have though that if you just wanted the GB map, then charge the 49eu or what ever it is, then charge 79eu for the upgrade to all the maps.

That is what doesnt make sense to me. Any thoughts on why they are charging more for a single map Sad

Ive just received an email from TomTom. In this they say, amongst other things - "When you get your new upgrade the first thing you should do is make multiple backup copies of the SD card you receive". This little gem of wisdom has made me think they could be telling me something here. Normally I would make one copy, BUT MULTIPLE COPIES?

The reason for single upgrade cost would seem to be the greater cost of SD card over the cost of the CDs for MOE. there is a near 50% reduction for existing owners as the outright buy of say GB map on SD is 149 euros.
The bit I don't like is the non CD route for single country maps, as it is always comforting to be able to start from scratch again with CD.

Forgive me if this question has already been answered and I haven't spotted it...

If I went out today and bought a new TomTom Go 300, would it come with the updated maps? How could I tell before purchasing?

The GO 300s will all have the new maps on.

I was tempted to say you can tell because the box will say GO 300 Wink but decided against it.

For anyone like me who has lost Proof of Purchase for the product codes... a reply from TomTom:

Dear Mr Kirk,

Thank you for contacting customer support. Unfortunately, without proof of purchase we cannot generate a new product code to assist you in upgrading your maps. To obtain the new maps you will have to purchase the new full version. I would recommend you wait and purchase the forthcoming Maps of Western Europe, as for only an extra 40 Euros it is a much better value than if you were to purchase only the new UK map. Please follow the link to our webstore for more information.

We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Hi there. I bought my TomTom Go early in the year and it's been working great. I've already upgraded the doftware to version 5, but now want to upgrade the maps themselves for just the UK. Unfortunately I've lost my product codes and proof or purchase. What can you suggest I do to get the new maps that have just come out? Do I simply need to buy a new SD card with the new maps from yourselves? Thanks for your help. Charlie

This is not a good response from TomTom. Did you ever have to activate your maps with TomTom? If so then they will have a record of your product code on thier system, so I would have expected that they could retrieve your details.

Of course this will not work for anyone who has never needed to activate the maps.

I will be upgrading my map at some point just not yet if possible. Is there a time limit on the offer of discounted maps to existing go users?

I have asked this question elsewhere,
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19905
but will ask again here, Why aren't the new maps available as downloads?
That would make things cheaper still.
