I have just taken the SD card out of tomtom and put into Pc's card reader and TomTom Home started straight away!!.So I am going to try the advice given and come bavk and let you know how I get on.

I have connected tomtom to PC and openend Home,but home does not find tomtom.Windows finds tomtom with no problem?
Did it before?

Hope that fixes it, but I'm concerned when you say "When you first switch on on you get the the tomtom sound"...
You SHOULDN'T get that sound when you just "switch on", only after a re-boot.
