I'm no expert on activation Mark, but it definately gave a new machine id after hard reset, otherwise I would have been running with no problems. Maybe it is ttn's own generated id?

I have to admit, the postcode search is the reason I went for tomtom. I work in NW London and the majority of my work comes via MDT with full postcodes so this would have been ideal.

If there is an area you would normally not use then set an 'Avoid Area'. I have done this to prevent routing in a way that I would not agree with and would ignore as you have.
