It seems to love little side roads rather than the obvious main route.
I get exactly the same Simon, although I've found it more of a problem at the begining and end of the routes as I mentioned ... |

I have the same problem with roundabouts, d3 doesn't recognise them at all, it just tells you to turn left, then, turn left (although if its a big roundabout it just says turn left as you ge ... |
