3450 is using the SIRF Star 2e/LP (Low Power) chipset, which means more standalone battery time/use.

I think it was athermic heat reflecting windshield problem (which blocks GPS signals), since you said that you were using a Renault. Check NAVMAN suport FAQ you will see that Renaults 2001 onward ...

- 3420 SIRF Star 2e chipset, More sensitive than 3400
- 3450 SIRF Star 2e/LP (Low Power=More standalone battery time) plus external antenna input.
