Last week I rang Navman and asked about update. They did confirm my name was on list so they posted me a DVD and yesterday I managed to update my S30 with 2009 map.

However, my update was not smoot ...

I have not got email yet [I did register for free update last year] Sad

As per earlier communication [free map upgrade offer] last year, Navman should release new map in June 2009.

Does anyone know anything?

Not a new release really.

I'm registered for 2009 map update (bought Navman in 2008) - so they should send me a mail when next update is available.

It is possible to convert S30 into a PDA.

However, it will invalidate your warranty.

Even if you not purchased your Navman unit between those dates, you can still claim upgrade as long as you register your unit between those period.

Just make sure you select a proper purchased date ...

My Navman S30, on many occasions, guided me into single lane farm tracks.

Is there any way to avoid single lane roads?

I could see an option of "avoid unmade roads" but definitely this does not ...

If it is within warranty period, you can get a replacement.

Is there any way to get "free" or "very cheap" maps from web/ebay?

I bought my S30 6 months back. Already it's bit out of date as some new (major) roads around my town are not there.

How can I get an updated map?

If you want to preview from A to B and your current location is C,

set up a route to cover C - A - B

Then you can preview A to B (though after having preview C to A first)

There are some towns in UK, where even with the aid of sat nav, you'll bound be lost on your way.

Reasons:

Numerous one way streets [sometimes sat navs can't recognize them]
Lots of no left/rig ...

I once got 30 mph camera alert on M25 Shocked

A quick glance on map revealed that there was a country road [bridge] cross ing over the motorway and I got alert for that camera. Very Happy
