I don't think you should have to press detour when you load a route and answer No to the question "do you want to start from the beginning".

I haven't noticed any problem with a new Nuvi 760 just upgraded. I've done a few tests routes of about 20 mins and its seems ok so far. |

In answer to my question - pressing Menu, Detour will cause a recalculate. Not sure why you need to do this - it seems wrong to me, but if you are stuck this at least gives you some directions.

Actually it routes you through the channel tunnel (a reasonable route suggestion I would say) but if you have booked on the ferry.... |

In Menu/Settings/System on my 360 you can turn off 'touch tones' - hopefully same/similar on your 760.
Hmm nothing like that on the 760 - and in Tools Volume - it just has master, navigation and me ... |

Is there any way to stop the device making a noise when I am entering data by touching the screen?
I was a navigator entering stuff in the Nuvi and the driver found it distracting - it seemed like ... |
