Exactly the same issue I had. Use GPSTweak to switch the GPS into nmea mode.

I just went through a similar thing with TT5 and a BT338. TT5 seems to require an nmea stream, nort sirf. Try the GPStweak program to set the GPS in the right mode

Found SirfDemo, but the usb BT dongle on my PC gives it ports of 18 and 22. SirfDemo only allows you serial ports of 1-12. I will try it on my laptop at home later.

Thought it should be fine. Taken from the spec for the BT338

GPS Output Data NMEA 0183 protocol, and supports command:
GGA(1sec), GSA(1 sec), GSV(5 sec), RMC(1sec)

I have a hx4700 with a BT338 GPS. This all works fine with TomeTom Navigator 3.

Installing TomTom 5 on and I get no GPS signal. There is connectivity between the BT338 and the 4700 though !.
