Be careful what SD cards you get if you get 4Gb or greater as they are not all compatible with the TomToms.

In fact not compatible with a lot of devices.

I tend to have:

up to 30mph, 100yards
30-50mph, 200yards
50+ 300yards

You need to download the TomTom Home application, run that and hook up tour TomTom to your PC and it downloads & can install it for you.

....If your TomTom was stolen/lost/whatever, you could contact TomTom as such and next time that device did an update on their server it could send a message back to the unit telling it to switch off ...
