Thanks for the help guys but no joy. Have checked the cfg file and it isn't write protected.

I guess it either got to warm or cold in my pocket or maybe I deleted something important removing some ...

SD isn't write protected. Was working fine for about 2 months and then all of a sudden "forgot"

Went with the Holux 236Slim BT amzed at how small it was! Can envisage a couple of situations where it might be handy to have mobile GPS so went with the BT option. Thanks for the advice guys.

Must admit the more I am reading the more I am leaning towards a smartphone (really like the Nokia N70). Seems like I could nail a whole bunch of things at once (decent phone, gps etc.)
