Does it just appear when there are more than a certain number of favourites or can it be turned off? Yes and no. To effectively turn it off, you need to reduce the number of favourites.

Nope. Nothing in Eire, just Northern Ireland. To be honest, I was surprised to see Northern Ireland coverage considering it's described as a GB map, rather than UK.

The "TomTom" sound only plays the first time you switch on after a reset. A reset is triggerred by: pressing the reset button, connecting via USB or removing/replacing the SD card.
