Fact 1: The Tomtom knows where it is, i.e. its Latitude and Longitude
Fact 2: The Tomtom knows the time
Fact 3: Calculating sunrise and sunset times is easy

On my TTG 700 switching to walking mode seems to allow routes to be made against the flow of traffic i.e. you can walk the "wrong way" up a one-way street.

I suspect the problem may be with your 'phone.
I run an ageing Sony Ericsson T68i. It can only manage a single Bluetooth connection at a time i.e. a data link (e.g. for traffic) OR a voice link but ... |

Took my TTG 700 (june '05 vintage with S/W updates) to Costa del Sol in March '06.
It did take a while to get a fix once we got out of the u/g car park - too long to prevent me taking the wrong direc ... |

As Bluetooth devices tend to be, by design, portable a field in the database showing the weight of the device would be really useful.
