On mine (TT3, 2210 and 6310i) I start TT, and when TT goes to connect to traffic it just dials the GPRS (either on the timer, or when I select Update traffic info)

I also use a BT connected 02 6310i with a Nokia hard wired car kit with my aerial on the roof, so the problem is unlikely to be this.
