Most are rear facing in Switzerland and have been since at least 1974 when I arrived here.

I don't see why the power lead should present a problem. That goes in on the short end - at least it does in the iPhone I have and the one in the photo. :-)

The iPhone gets the initial fix from the mobile cell but even if there is no signal the GPS eventually finds where it is. It just takes longer.
