...nothing like answering one's own question:
The songs are shown in the correct order if I select the music icon then "Artist" then the author's name.

My MP3 files for a book are all titled (ID tag and filename) in the order: Disc Track
For example, "1A", "1B", ..., "9G", "9H", "10A", "10B",...
