there are however lots of new HADEC cameras on that stretch I am told (by the local traffic cops who have picked up the odd ticket)

Link works for me. I should say that I have used this service in the past when my old Garmin died and got a replacement [refurbished] unit for about 30 at that time.

I agree, put the headset in pairing mode and then get the Garmin to search for it. Then just enter the passcode (normally 0000 or 1234) and job done.

Both my bike Garmin's connect to my wired heads ...

Put it on a separate card and manage it that way, also makes it easier to run map updates once the internal memory gets stretched.
