|
|
Just purchased a new (hopefully) 303e from ebay. Went to plug it in ps2 port on a home pc as the manual said to power it up for like 6 hours and nothing. No led, no win xp found new hardware.
Just it was the only cable supplied and is that all I have to do is say plug it in the mouse port or do I need another cable.
Even had a usb to ps2 times 2 splitter and tried that in a lappy but notin.
Also is the ps2 like hot swapable if the computer is on plug it in.
Ive tried booting it up with it in but its just not getting installed.
Its still under warenty so I may send it back afterI try and get a cf / pcmcia adapter to see if it works in the lappy.
Man am I missing somthing or what.
Stuff should work straight out of the box.
Thanks for any help

you will get no joy plugging the cable into the ps2 port on your pc - this is for keyboard/mouse only - no power and not a serial port!
The ps2 plug on the gps mouse is a serial connection - you need a ps2 to serial adaptor specific to your pda (or to a 9 pin serial port on your pc). For pda these will normally include a cigar lighter power socket to power the mouse and pda.
Alternatively you can plug it straight into the haicom powered car mount (available from global positoning sytems and others) which will power your pda and the mouse at the same time.

'you will get no joy plugging the cable into the ps2 port on your pc'
I'll agree with that !
' - this is for keyboard/mouse only'
Fair enough !
' - no power and not a serial port! '
What ???
1. Of course there's power ! - What powers up the mouse or keyboard you plug into the port ??
2. Of course it's a serial port ! - The data messages to/from the mouse/keyboard are transmitted serially - there aren't enough connections for a parallel data bus !!
If you mean that the port is not an RS232 port and that the data messages are not in the correct format, or the port driver cannot deal with anything other than a mouse or keyboard, then I'll agree with you ! _________________ Getting older and more senile by the minute !

perhaps I should have been clearer...
Don't plug a gps mouse into a keyboard socket if you expect it to work. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

Ok ps2 is a no go then. How about Usb to ps2. Haicom says this will work but do you nead to buy their specific adapter as I have a usb to ps2 splitter (mouse/keyboard) which does not seam to work.
Man this company needs to make their user manual more detailed.
Got a fix on pcmcia/cf adabter on the lappy. Just to let you know.
Just really want to use it as a mouse as I have no 9pin serial conection on the lappy. If some one could explain this to me that would be much appreciated.
