Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had this problem (and a possible solution?) to these kinds of BT problems...

I have an Ipaq H4155, a RBT-3000, and Mapopolis GPS software.

The BT Manager can find, connect, and pair with the GPS, but when I start Mapoplis, I can't get past the red "Com 6" screen where it tries to talk to the GPS.

Looking at the GPS, I can see that the blue BT light is not on or blinking.

Also interesting, is that I noticed that the charge light was blinking and the sattellite light was blinking. When trying to connect via Mapoplis, however, the sattellite light stops blinking and nothing shows on the BT light.

If things were working right, the software should start tracking or show a yellow "acquiring fix..." instead.

Yesterday, after lots of resetting, restarting, relaunching, and powercycling the thing finally worked after about 30 mintues of messing around. After getting to my location, I couldn't get it to communicate again and ended up driving home the "hard way" out of frustration.

Has anyone else been experiencing any flakey BT problems like this? Or does anyone know if there are any known solutions on how to deal with problems like this?

Thanks in advance!

Stan

Hi Dave,

Nope, don't have TomTom installed. Mapopolis is the only GPS program that's ever been installed on there.

The GPS used to work all of the time, but after not using it for a while (a few weeks), this started occurring.

The reason I picked the Royaltek unit was because I installed it in my car and leave the power on (so the battery gets completely discharged). The Royaltek doesn't need a charged battery to work and will just work off the ac power.

The blue light won't display if it hasn't found a BT connection, the RoyalTek tends to go into a sleep mode like this, so it maybe that your PPC isn't talking through the correct BT port, something is blocking it, or the RoyalTek has developed a fault in it's BT engine.

I wonder if the Royaltek somehow is dying then?

I didn't change any of the PPC settings and after messing around for a while I did get it to work the first time... I gave up the second time because I wanted to go home.

Might be time to contact the comopany to see if they have any pointers... I checked out their tech support section, but the information in there isn't very helpful.

It does sound as though its the age old BT issue, although I haven't seen or heard of it happening on a RoyalTek RBT 3000 before.

Are you referring to the unlit-blue-light-of-death syndrome that I read about alot with the TomTom units?

Right now I'm doing some experiments to see if i can get everything sorted out in the next few days... if they don't work, I'll probably have to contact RoyalTek to see if they can ship me a replacement.
