Before upgrading to this, the routing was fine. For example, from Heathfield to the A21 kept me on the main road, A265.

Since upgrading(?), the thing is trying to take me down single lane tracks that lead off and then back on the A265. This happened with other roads as well. I checked the obvious - namely I hadn't accidentally set it to shortest route as opposed to fastest.

This is what TomTom does and one of the reasons I went back to the Garmin.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Allan

I haven't noticed any change in routing with mine having updated but the golden rule is that if you notice any abnormal or unexpected behaviour after a map or software upgrade preform a master reset, details for your nuvi are either here:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B80c3c390-85f1-11df-f376-000000000000%7D

0r here:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B19d92df0-6f4b-11e2-65d0-000000000000%7D

(can't recall which one you have)

As well as checking fastest/shortest it's also worth checking your avoidance settings, so try that before you master reset.

If you can give me more detail about the route I'll check it on mine if you want prior to you master resetting. I've had a quick play and can't make it move off the A265. Also if you can live with it a bit longer a map update is due shortly Smile

Hi, Thanks I'll try the reset and I have a 2598.

Going from Etchingham towards Hurst Green (A21), you go over the level crossing and up the hill on the A265 which is how the routing used to work.

Yesterday it tried to send me up Burgh Hill to the left. It does rejoin the A265 but is a nasty country lane! This is how the TomTom routing worked.

Just run that on my 2508 and it stays on the A265 ... master reset time if you've checked avoidances, only ones set on mine are car share lanes and unpaved roads.

Thanks - I'll do that. I have those avoidances plus U turns and a zone around Tunbridge Wells!

My TomToms with latest maps also stick to the A265, as I would expect, as I've never had a problem with the TT routing.

When I switched to TomTom I found it used far fewer minor roads than Garmin, but that was several years ago and probably the Garmin routing has improved.

Routing I feel is always a moot point. Folks expect their satnav to take them the way they think is best, forgetting that what some might think 'best' others might not. TT and Garmin both have their critics on routing but at the end of the day they are a driver aid and don't have to be slavishly followed.

I know at times I've queried a decision made by my Garmin, but having looked at a map later have realised it was a good option.

Later nuvis at least offer you a choice of routes if they believe there is a choice, and of course you can still add vias if you're not happy with the option proposed.

My ideal satnav would be one that took me along the roads that other satnavs weren't choosing, that way I should get a clear run Very Happy

I was given the single track road experience today by the Garmin device. Normally it has behaved very well. Time to check the routing options.

However another "abuse by satnav" story is coming out of Petersfield where heavy lorries travelling west on the A272 are routed down a very narrow lane followed by a right turn to go over the level crossing. The most appropriate route would have to go south on the A3 and then west on the A272.

No matter how I try with different route settings, I cannot get my iGO to route me up Burgh Hill unless I put in a waypoint. What's wrong with Burgh Hill that iGO dislikes? As it's obvious that it is the shortest route.

The latest on my 3790 keeps wanting me to turn off a slip road then come back onto the road I was on... It's quite annoying... Not sure what firmware version it is though!

More like a map issue, is yours up to date?

My 1490 did that on a junction on the M27 a few years back, didn't after a map update.
