Hi Everyone,

My first post in this forum. Iv looked through other posts regarding this problem and noone seems to know what this is. I received my GPS setup on monday, used it for the first time on tuesday and it crashed twice during navigation. I downloaded all available updates including add-ons such as postcode finder and checkpoint and although the original problem seems to be resolved i now have three more problems.

1. The backlight has been turned to zero for power mode.

2. The sounds have been switched off.

3. GPS ceased to work during my jorney down the M25.

Im really worried about how reliable TOMTOM is as i have had nothing but problems. I spent all this money on making travelling less stressful but insted im three times as stressed as i was berfore!!!!

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8O

Hi,

Don't panic. I've got an IPAQ 2210 and am using Tomtom Bluetooth GPS version 3 with traffic. I only got the Tomtom stuff last week (have had my IPAQ for about a year now), and don't have the problems you've got so it sounds like some configuration issues.

I did a hard reset on my IPAQ. Downgraded from version 1.10 of the ROM to version 1.00 (the reason I did this was that I use a Nokia 6230, and the bluetooth patch only works on version 1.00. This is probably not necessary). I have had no issues with bluetooth dropping connections. There is a new version of Tomtom (Vs 3.03) which has apparently corrected the problems you mention so I would suggest upgrading.

anyway:

1) The backlight has been turned to zero for power mode.
Go to START/SETTINGS/SYSTEM/BACKLIGHT
I keep my backlight on all the time for both external and battery so the first box is unticked.

2) The sounds have been switched off.
at the top left (beside the clock) click on the speaker icon and adjust volume there.

3) GPS ceased to work during my jorney down the M25.
Hmmm... avoid the M25 ?
Maybe it's got something to do with the positioning of your GPS receiver, or car winscreen ? try putting the GPS box on the back windscreen.

good luck,

may be getting a power lead might help have you done the upgrade to the lastest rom from th ehp site
leaving the back light on all the time with out the power lead pluged in will drain the battery and if the battery get to a certain level ive found that navigator will not function

Ben123,

What's your actual set up?
IPAQ ROM BT Manger version?
Particular GPS device
It it all new equipment or re-purposed.

I had real problems with an old iPAQ 3870 and TT3, it should have worked but didn't. I changed to a new 2210 and Fortuna CO and latest TT version and I now have to work hard to break it. My 2210 is using ROM 1.1, the 6230 BT security issue has been resolved by a patch from HP. So latest versions all round BUT.... on a virgin system. I had to spend the best part of a day seting it up, but its been well worth it! :D

Re GPS failing on M25, any GPS can have signal issues but they are generally very reliable, I've used a Garmin Vista for nearly 2 years and the only problem with it is ME! Wink

The difficulty is identifying if its a TT or an iPQA issue. iPAQ have a history of backlight problems. Having said that on the 'old' TT3 set up my 3780 iPAQ re-set sevveral of the navigation options without any visable reason, but that's not happend since the latest release.

My advice is keep the install clean, no 'extra' apps until its proven.

Chill, and keep off the M25 (thats just asking to be stressed!) Thumbs Up

Cheers everyone but unfortunately i cannot avoid the M25, as much as i would like to!

I have a brand new HP2210, Bluetooth GPS, TOMTOM3 and have just installed the 2.01 and 2 3.03 updates one for GPS. I have installed Checkpoint but have since removed it as i feared this could be causing the problem. I have bluetooth version 141? Pocket PC2003, ROM version 1.10.07 but have just downloaded some updates from HP which i amdue to download. From what iv been reading the setup which i have certainly is not the best! Should i remove the 3.01 update as i have added the 3.03 updates as well? How do i do a hardreset and at what times should i do one? Sorry for the stupid questions, this is my first PDA and i must say i am not enjoting the experience.

Cheers all

Ben Thumbs Up

no you dont need to remove 3.01 as 3.03 will overwrite it checpoint should be ok and if you are going to do hard reset make sure you do full back up before you do a hard reset

also if you bonded the reciver and created a serial port for it thhen remove it from the bt manager do a SOFT RESET push the little button oin the back
then rebond the gps but do no create a shourt cout in the bt manager for
you will be asked if you want create an serial port of the gps select no at this point
in the gps screen in tomtom the topline should say tomtom wire less gps and the botton line should say bt on com 8 or something like this if you not sure msn me and ill try and help also could you pls up date you profile to include your location

To perform a full reset:

1. Press and hold Application Buttons 1 (Calendar) and 4
(iTask) on the front of the unit and, at the same time, use the
stylus to press the Reset button on the back of your iPAQ
Pocket PC.

2. Hold all buttons until the displayed image begins to fade
(approximately four seconds).

3. Release the Application Buttons and stylus.
✎To verify a full reset, press the Power button. If the iPAQ Pocket
PC has been fully reset, it does not power on.

4. Reactivate the battery by:
❏ Connecting the iPAQ Pocket PC to AC power
or
❏ Pressing the Reset button with the stylus

Does performing this type of reset have a detrimental affect on the iPAQ?

It returns the iPAQ to 'Out of the box' status. That is to say that all your data and programmes, except those in the Filestore, will be deleted so back up all your data first.

It is the equivalent to reformatting your hard drive.
