Several reasons why I would not use my PDA with PPC&GPS on my motorcycle:

1. Not weather resistent or water-proof without add-ons.
2. Vibrations and shock of mc may damage the internals of PDA.
3. Battery life of coloured screen PDA running a GPS is dismal.
4. If you drop, the damage and data loss to the PDA can be signifcant.

Reasons why I use a Garmin eTrex Vista on my mc:
1. Weatherproof and water resistent.
2. With proper mounts (RAM mounts or tankbag), gps holds up quite well.
3. 12 to 16 hours battery life on two AA is much better than my PDA/GPS.
4. Droped and bounched the Vista numerous times while hiking, mountain biking and motorcycling. Unit still looks and runs like new. I would hate to do this to a PDA/GPS unit. Also, if I damage my Vista, the only loss would be the GPS and not my contacts, calendar, notes, etc.

I hope this helps...edward...

Most people I have seen using them keep them in tank bags which keeps the water and dirt out of them.

Maybe you could try keeping it inside your jacket and connect up a headphone and just listen to the voice instructions. I tried this with a mobile phone hands free kit once, but I found that the helmet got too noisy at over 50 MPH.

In common with tsunami6RR, I have a Garmin unit (GPS-V) which I use on my bike with a RAM mount. The Garmins are fully waterproof which is a very nice feature.

Brodit are about to release a weatherproof GPS mount solution speciffically for bikes, either motorised or muscle powered.

It is basically a modified Otterbox with a handlebar type mount. Hopefully I will be getting one for review in the next few weeks.
