TomTom LIve services...

hi

Having been away from TomTom for a good few months I thought id return to it as I am planning some long distance journeys soon..

I notice the Live services are priced at 47.95, I pretty sure when I looked last time they were half that price..

Anyone know of any codes around ?

When I first bought it, it was priced at twice that price!!

If you've "been away", are you aware that Google Search has been replaced by TomTom Places? It's real rubbish.

No, they ARE subtly different...

For devilment, I just did an actual TT Local Search for "Real Rubbish" near me, and it found:
"Alfie's Real Fish and Chips"
"Dhillon Real Estate Ltd.
"The Real Greek"
"SCI Real Estate"
"The Real Bejing Restaurant"
(and a load more Real Estate companies.

... while a TT Local Search for "[b]Total Cr*p[//b]" (spelt in full) found:
"Total Software UK"
"Total Bathroom Management"
"Total Hockey"
"Total"
"Total Dry Cleaning"
etc etc.

I think you can see just how clever it is... it only seems to read the first word you type! Rolling Eyes

Yesterday I got a delivery to Milford Haven, late enough to persuade me to eat out rather than come home to at midnight.

So, as usual, I did a search for Fish and Chips near my destination. It found nothing at all.

I was delivering to Precelly Place, Milford Haven and guess what was at the end of the road - Haven Fish Cafe!!!

As per the OP, I'm waiting for a price drop in Live Services as well. The price needs to be about £20 before I'll buy it again especially after TT dropping Google Search.

Yes, the appalling Live Search should just be scrapped as a bad idea badly implemented, its worse than useless, it actually provides dangerously misleading information that could say result in you driving 20miles to the "nearest" hospital when in actual fact there's one just round the corner!

TomTom's comment of "it'll get better over time" is complete bollox, it'll never happen. They should have stuck with the vastly superior Google version.
