What old tech is best, Dell Axim X30 or Sony Clie TH55?

Hi All,

This is my first post. I'm a beginner so think this is perhaps the best sub group to post this in, apologies if not. I have 2 old PDAs which if at all possible, I would like to continue to make use of. I'm in need of a satnav for upcoming trips in Europe and occasional trips in the UK.

My Sony Clie TH55 (Palm OS5) has the GPS cradle (but I've lost the software though that came with the cradle!)

My Dell Axim X30 (windows 2003se) I've learnt, can be connected to a garmin etrex which provides GPS (NMEA mode) signal. I have the corect plug to do this and can borrow an etrex.

Can anyone recommend compatable software - something as new as possible for either of these 2 and which one would be the most suitable candidate?

I also need to know about upgrading maps for your recommendations and whether it is infact possible or does using old software mean I can't update maps to the latest?

I am of the opinion that I would like to use one of these PDAs rather than fork out for something like a nexus 7 or new smartphone just at the moment, until I've exhausted my options with these two units.
