After my fourth TOMTOM, which today totally crashed and has taken ages to get back working.
Can anyone advise which is a decent SAT NAV device for the car. All i want is traffic updates and put PGPS cameras on it. Hands free phone bit would be great, but a working version.
Any suggestions, how hard can it be??? |

Hi graeme,
I use a (now quite old) TomTom 950. It has the latest maps and the previous version of the Navcore software - only because I haven't had time to connect it to the computer and update it.
The 950, unlike the modern TomTom units, uses TomTom home and when connected to the computer becomes an extra couple of drives (one for the unit and one for the memory card of the 950) this allows it to be easily updated with PGPSW camera database.
The 950 has HD traffic, I'm not a Road Warrior so I don't need to rely on it often but what I have seen, the traffic does well.
The 950 is easy to fully backup to the computer so when I do updates I know that I have a full backup should the update fail.
In addition I run CamerAlert on an Android phone (HTC Desire) as that is easier and quicker to update - especially if I'm in a hurry.
My set-up works for me, whether it'd work for you can only be answered by you.

TomTom Outlet store currently has Refurbished GO750 Live with a year's free Live Services, £140. Should be good as new, but be aware the battery probably won't be - I got a Refurb GO550 and the battery was completely dud, had to get a new 550 from them. _________________ Dennis

if you are buying from tomtom add the code Welcome123b, this will then drop the price of the tomtom 750 to £131.99 |
