iPod lead too short to connect.

Having fun and games with VW, they fitted a Kenwood DNX521DAB system into my VW Touran and left me with a iPod connection into the Glove Box, this however lost me a USB connection, I asked for the USB to be connected so that I was able to update as and when, however, they then fitted the USB into the glove box and removed the iPod cable because they said the AV lead, earphone jack to the un-initiated was too short so now when I connect the iPod lead to the existing USB lead, I get all the graphics from my iPhone on the DNX521DAB but without sound, anyone got any ideas ???
