Smartlink traffic subscrition

Because we are getting little or no signal on the GTM traffic receiver we got a subscription to Live Traffic using my wife's Android phone and I have to say I am very impressed with it. Fast, up to date info on small roads that aren't otherwise covered. For around £20 a year I don't see this as bad value.
However, having bought a new Android phone myself, partly to be able to use this facility I find that it is not possible to use two phones with one Garmin unit. If I want to use the Live info I have to fork out again for another subsciption.
I would have thought that the subsciption would be linked to the unit, not an individual phone and have made my displeasure plain to Garmin.
The support guy was very understanding and agreed but obviously that is the situation.
So beware if you are thinking of doing the same.

it will be because it's probably linked to the users google account and has nothing to do with garmin themselves
