Evening Everyone,
I have just changed from a Classic XXL to the above for the HD Traffic Function.
I have dowloaded a few Supermarkets on to POIS.
With the previous Model (XXL) the nrew POIS were in the POI Menu.
Now you have to key in every time Tesco etc.
I tried on Manage POI add Catagories, but it does not recognoise them.,
So is there away I can add to POI Menu or do i have to key in new POIS that i have dowloaded every time?
Cheers.

I'm not totally sure of what you are trying to say.
On the Device itself the POIs are handled in the same way.
Once the POI files (OV2, bmp), are in the current map Folder then they will be available to you in the normal way.
If you mean that you are unable to add the POIs to the Device, with HOME or Windows Explorer, then you need you use what is called the Nav3 method of using the MyTomTom Browser.
Someone who is more familiar with this method will probably be along soon, to run you through the steps you need to take. _________________ Richard

Sorry for not making myself clear.
Before, with the XXL Tom Tom, I downloaded Pois.
They then appeared Alphabetically in the POI Section.
Now, they are NOT there Alpabetically after I have dowloaed them.
So, what I NOW have to do to find them is, go into other Catagorey.
Enter the name of the Supermarket, EG TESCO.
Then it gives you a list of these locations.
So the downloads are there.
To show them I have to enter the name of what I am looking for.
So my question is how can I get them into the POI Menu so I dant have to do this?
i hope this makes sense.

I'm still not entirely sure what problem you're having, but I can assure you the POIs are handled in exactly the same way on the XXL and all the new models that I've seen. I've never used an 820, but I'd be very surprised if it handled POIs differently from every other TT model.
So I think it must be something to do with the way the files you have downloaded are assembled or named.
Where are you getting them from?
What are the file names?
For example, if you download the POIs from this site, you have the option to
1. download ONE POI file called "Supermarkets" or
2. download INDIVIDUAL files for all the different supermarket brands.
If you used option #1, then you could tap Navigate to... / POI / POI near Home, then select "Supermarkets" and you would get a list of different supermarkets, listed in order of distance from you
i.e.
Tesco, Anytown
Sainsburys, Anytown
Co-Op, Anytown
Tescos, Nearbytown
Co-Op, Nearbytown
etc.
If you used option #2
you would need to select "Tescos" or "Co-Op" from the POI list before you got a list of results, and the n you'd just get
Tescos, Anytown
tescos, Nearbytown
Tescos, Fartown
etc.
If we still haven't grasped what you're seeing (or not seeing) can you do a list of the exact button presses you make and the exact results you see on screen, to describe the problem (or some pictures might be even better). And don't forget those filenames too. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Are you saying that you don't have a POI category called Tesco, but you do have one called Supermarkets (or possibly "Shopping - Supermarkets, etc")? And that individual POIs within this category contain the word Tesco within their name?
If so, it's possible that when you downloaded your POIs, you selected the option "Combine subcategories into category file". I don't think you wanted to do this - you should have selected "Separate files per subcategory".

Also, if it's any help... here's what I get on a Go1000 if I go to "Navigate to..."
Select "Navigate to..."
Get screen of options icons (Home, Address etc.)
Select "Point of interest"
Get screen of options icons "POI near you" "POI in city" etc.
Select "POI near Home"
Get screen of options icons: "Search by name" is top left (see below), then the next four are the most used categories I've selected in the past, and the final one is a blue arrow labelled "More"
Select "More".
Now I get a TEXT list of all the installed POI categories (both the built-in ones AND the ones I've added). For the ones I've added, the names shown on screen are exactly the same as the filenames of the .ov2 files I loaded.
I can scroll down that list with the arrow buttons or "Search" searches the category names.
(If I wanted to search for a PARTICULAR POI's name in ALL the categories, then I'd use the first "Search by name" button mentioned earlier).
Once I've found my preferred POI category (eg "Supermarkets") then they are listed as text:
Co-Op Mytown
Lidl - Mytown
Tesco, MyTown Metro
Costcutter, Closetown
etc.
etc.
How does your experience differ? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks for the replies.
If I select POI near me, in a city or whatever the Alpabetical menu comes up for me to select a list Banks etc.
The Supermarkets I have downloaded are NOT on that list.
They are on the Tom Tom.
I have to select other then type in the name, or part of the name.
The Supermarket I have entered a list is generated.
As I said, what I'd like is for the dowloaded POIS to be located in the alpabetical list.
I have e mailed tom tom now.
They say with the GO series it is not possible for me to view the Downloaded POIS in the Alpabetical POIS Menu/List.
I have to key in the words.
Seems a bit prehistoric to me?

The Supermarkets I have downloaded are NOT on that list. | When you come to the screen where the cursor is flashing for POI Category, is there an arrow beside the List of Names you can see?
If so, can you Page Down till you find your Supermarket? _________________ Richard

Can you answer the folowing questions?
1. Where did you download the POIs from? Was it from this PocketGPSWorld website?
2. When you select POI Near Me, you see a list of POI categories - e.g. Banks. If you look through this list, (a) Do any of the categories have the word "PGPSW" at the end of the name? (b) Do any of the icons on the left hand side of the screen appear in colour, or are they all in black & white?
These questions are important, because if the icons are B&W, or they don't include PGPSW in the name, then you may not have loaded the files to the correct place on your TomTom. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

1) It wasnt from this site just a free POI Site
2) no PGPSW after ANY Names.
3) All B&W
4) I have to click on Search By Name in the menu to find stuff.
I think Tom Tom saying you cant have it on your List says it all.
The Go Live is nothing like any previous Tom Tom I ve had, this is my third.
Thanks for trying.

I still don't think the 820 can be any different from other TomToms in this respect.
Can you try something else?
Download the following two files:
Bridges.ov2
Bridges.bmp
Copy them both into your 'Europe' folder (or whatever the exact name for your European map is.
Do not put them in the folder called "poi"
Disconnect from the PC and do a 20-second press on the power switch until you hear the drum roll sound and the unit reboots.
Then tell me if you can find a POI category called "Bridges" in the list when you go to Navigate to / POI / POI in city / London _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Was the file you downloaded named "other.ov2' or similar. It sounds to me as though the site you downloaded from named the file and therefore the category as "Other" rather than as you would prefer "Supermarkets" _________________ https://share.octopus.energy/dense-raven-261 |
