I need some help...
I tried to upgrade from 5.420 to 5.440 and it seems to have done half a job. I now have V5.420 with Boot 3.320 and my Go seems to playing up...
Can anyone advise the best way to completely restore the Go 700 to it's original "out of the box" setting.
I have the original back up that TomTomrecommend you do via their CD, but this seems to only be only 14.9mb even though it has 142 files and 10 folders. This doesn't seem right to me...
I have the first personal settings back up that I did just after and it is in excess of of 1.3GB.
What I'd like to do is completely wipe and start a fresh...

I think you may have that round the wrong way. ;)
The Map Data is the critical part as you can always download the Program Software.
Do another Copy/Paste of the Map Folder. Do it manually rather than through the TomTom interface. That way you will know where it is, and which is which.
Check that the Backup and the Map Folder has the same Properties (Files and Sizes) and then Reformat the 700.
Install the V5.420, then Restore the Map Folder. _________________ Richard

Hi Richard... I may have worded it wrong, but it's not the wrong way round... honest...
When I first got my TomTom, you insert the CD, and it says in the Manual to do a full back up.
Now unless I did something wrong (perhaps I left the "check" in the wrong place and left it on "back up your personal settings) I did what I thought was a full back up.
I have just installed the CD to have a look, and (hands Up) yes, I must have left the check on "Back Up Your Personal Settings" in all my excitement!!
This created a folder that is called "TomTom Go Backup" and is only 14mb. Where as if I do it right and "Backup Your TomTom" it creates a file called "Backup-20060129 1711" in the folder you choose!!! (Obviously the numbers are time and date!)
Oh the shame... now I'm really showing my inabilities!!!!

To reformat the Go700, is it safe to right click on the "Go" Drive in "My Computer" and just hit "FORMAT"?
Oh my word... can you belive this, I went to bed last night with 5.44 installed, just backed it up in preparation to wipe it and it now says 5.42 is the version... what the hell is going on?? _________________ Steve
