Hi,

I've just upgraded from an old TomTom Go 520 to a new Start 60, which obviously has the new software/interface.

I've put all of my 3rd party POI's onto the Start 60, which seem to be working fine.

However, when I try to navigate to a POI, it only shows the local ones.

So if for example I have the Caravan Club POI's and I want to navigate to a site at the other end of the country, it doesn't seem show in the list, even when searching.

How do I do this? - it always worked fine on my old 520.

Thanks,

Ian

Because there is a bloody limitation in the search range with the application installed on the new models. 80km or 50 miles.

You could try searching for poi near city if that option is available.

Hi,

That's terrible.

It's fine like that for things like cash machines, petrol station etc, as you are generally only looking for ones close by.

But for a lot of the other POI's, like places, that's really bad not being able to navigate to them.

It means you either need the postcode, and render the POI thing useless (until you get near by maybe), or you need to now where it is to navigate to one near a city.

Crazy Sad

I guess that if you are looking for somewhere specific you'd at least have some idea of the town it was closest to?? You can then search for POIs close to that town.

No?

If you don't roughly where the POI is you are looking for, how are you ever going to find it?

Can you give an example where this is "terrible" because i can't remember it being an issue before...

Hi,

It just seems an unnecessary step.

The way TomTom has always worked is, say I want to navigate to Dover Ferry Port, you just go: Navigate To, POI, Ferry Ports and find Dover.

They are ordered by distance, so if you want near-by ones, you can scroll down in the list, or you can use the search to find wherever you are looking for.

Now you would have to go: Navigate To, POI, Near City, Dover, Ferry Ports and Dover (or whichever way round it is when you select city - I don't have the unit next to me right now).

Yes, of course it is, but TomTom seem to think that it's how people want it, despite multiple critisisms on their website.

It's Harold's daughter's fault - he doesn't let her drive more than 80km so she got the guys to limit POI search to 80km. Funny how it matches the range for HD Traffic, innit?

Please, PLEASE report to TomTom how stupid you think this limitation is.

I've spoken to a software engineer at TT and even he doesn't see any good reason why this arbitrary limit was imposed on the new models (AND new software for old models), so if enough people complain, they might dedicate some engineering time to fixing it.

You can prove how stupid it is by trying to delete an entry in a user-POI category. That DOES search for distant locations
So it can physically do the full search to delete a POI, but not to navigate to it! How crazy is that!?
