It's not a known fault of the 910, and not something I've seen.

Does this happen when you are in clear view of the sky, and not moving?

If it happens when driving it might be a dodgy connection between the aerial module and the unit (someone may have put it back together incorrectly).

Blimey yes i think you are right when stationary sat on my window sill it stayed rock solid all the bars and I remember the guy said he had had it repaired and bought a new one while it was being fixed
so now is it going to cost me the price of the unit to get someone to take it apart and put it back right ? I dont think i could do this ? (I'm 66 and fingers like bananas )
any suggestions on where to send it too please ?

You don't say where you are located. I have an old 910 that suffered a fall that damaged a pcb connector, so that the battery didn't charge.

The aerial module has a small connector and is held in place by 2 small screws. If these are missing, or not tightened, it is possible to get the symptoms you describe.

My 69-year-old, arthritic, fingers can get to the aerial in about 2 mins. It's not that difficult if you have a No.6 Torx bit. Wink

I bought This Torx Set.

See This Post as a guide. You only need to get the cover off - no more. The Red Warning is for those who are going further.

The delay is typical of a 'cold start' for GPS reception.

If you PM me your address I can send you the aerial module from my broken 910, and you can give that a try.

Have you done a hard reset of the 910?

That would usually fix most problems.

Paper clip in bottom pin hole.

@ Oldboy

I have a 910 here that my son knocked off a shelf while it was connected to the holder and he's snapped the charging connector off the board. The PCB appears to be OK but the connector has some broken pins, therefore I need a scrap board to desolder the charging connector, to replace it on my 910.

Woould you be prepared to part the board out and how much would you want for it?

Thanks

It's the Connector that is the problem on mine. I tried re-soldering, but even with the smallest soldering iron I have (and it's very small), I gave up.

But if you want to go ahead, and have a go, just PM me your address and I'll pop it in the Post to you. Smile

If you are still struggling, these people have had good reviews from members in the past. Based in N London with a workshop which is open to the public by appointment but most of their business is postal.

@ Oldboy

You have a PM. It's possible that between the two broken connectors, I may be able to cannibalise one good one.

Thanks. Wink
