I have my main hard-drive partitioned on my PC, C drive for system files and D drive for everything else.
In Tools/Home preferences I have everything set for drive D.
When updating the latest map however I get the message that there is not enough free space for temp files on drive C:\. please run disk cleanup.
Is there anything I can do other than create more space?
Thanks in advance |

Why wouldn't you want to run a disk cleanup and get rid of all the junk on your C: drive. If your C: drive is pretty full, it will slow down your computer. Have you shifted your Windows swap file to your D drive? |

There's no reason or problem running disk clean-up in fact it's already done I was wondering why when I use drive D:\ for non-windows programs & downloads etc Home still steers towards drive C:\.
I'm OK as I have lots of space but on one of my kids computers they have a small SSD for their windows files and don't have the option of increasing their drive C's size . |

In TTHome/Tools/Preferences/Folders you should be able to change where everything goes? |

He's done that... see post #1.
AFAIK, Home only puts it's main downloads and backups etc. into the place you tell it to (eg a different drive).
Other stuff still gets put onto the C: drive in at least two places:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\abcdefgh.default
and
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\TomTom\HOME3
Maybe if you change a setting or two somewhere in Windows itself you can steer the temp files elsewhere? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

There is an old DOS command that may work here:

Thank you for the replies, reading the google link I think I understand what's happening.
I couldn't see why having located everything in the 'other' drive it needed to use C: but guess it's just a windows thing.
I's no real problem and I guess if I alter the location for the temp files it would apply for everything so it's far easier to make sure that I use good housekeeping on a regular basis.
many Thanks

Just a thought. System Restore takes up quite a bit of space on the C: drive. You can adjust the amount of disk space it takes somewhere. Can't remember where, or be bothered at 11:22 at night to find out |

In XP it's Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
In Win7 and, I believe, Vista, type rstrui into the Start Menu Search Box. You can also type restore into the Search Box _________________ Richard

I cloned a larger HDD onto the SSD and the SSD pretty soon flled up with restore points. Google was my friend and found This for Vista but there is also a link there to adjust it for W7 |
