nuvi 1340 custom proximity point question

Just sapped my old tomtom for a nuvi 1340 and really having trouble .

The tomtom used to alert when we got near favourite places eg NT locations. I can't find out how to set up proximity alerts on any of the POIs. When I go to prximity settings all I see is the speed cammeras. How can I add anything else ? Please advice if it is possible. I've found how to get POIs into the unit (being carefull that it overwrites all that is in there) using POI s/w off the Garmin site but can't find how to put anything in the "custome" folder that the manual reefrs to.
