Hi Guy's
I don't know where to post this, so if the mods think it's in the wrong area, please move it.
I have an inforad motorcycle gps based speed camera system, which records trips, you can then download, i am told that yo can then overlay this onto maps,ie google, bing and alike, the only problem is i'm a complete numpty with the laptop, but would like to be able to plot my rides, i understand it produces info in .cvs format what ever that is, all i know is it puts them ino exel files, can anyone help,
but i can not get that to work either, i said i was a computer numpty. I have the exel file in .cvs form, but i can not get it to convert to kml, all i want to do is plot the route.

thanks tried that aswell, still no joy, that site is asking for headers, whats that and how would i install them.this is a sample of the data which the inforad downloads to my laptop,how do i get this a s a mapped ride ?

note the commas after the first and second columns. I also combined the remaining date time and number columns into a single column using csved.
Then you need to add a header so that gpsvisualizer knows what order the data appears in your file. You can add the header using a simple text editor like notepad. When this is done you should end up with a file which begins:
inforad says it downloads as a.csv file, me i have know idea what the difference is, although i know now, but do you have to change each line,or is there some way of doing the file in one go.

csved (see my post above) will edit every line in the file in one go. It takes a little while to learn how the program works but once learned it is quick to use.
I've just had another thought. Did you open the file in excel and then copy and paste the list that you posted above? If so then it could actually be a csv file as excel would not display the commas.
If you open the file with notepad can you see commas between the items of data? If so copy a few lines from the notepad listing here and we can tell you what the header line should be. _________________ Paul
An alternative solution may be to open the file and copy the data without the commas, then try to paste it all into a cell (cell A2 would be good) on a new Excel spreadsheet.
I don't use Excel so I'm not sure if the following will work; I use Gnumeric spreadsheets (free download) http://projects.gnome.org/gnumeric/downloads.shtml which is also suitable for Windows. I've just tried the following, with Gnumeric, and it works.
As mentioned above, try to paste all of your data into cell A2 of the spreadsheet, the spreadsheet should question this action because it can't detect any commas and ask you to select an alternative separator. Select *space* and proceed to import the data. You may need to "merge cells" where the date and time have also been separated due to selecting *space*.
Once the data is safely in the spreadsheet, add the headers (latitude, longitude, name01, etc.) in Row 1 above the columns of data.
Then save the file "Save as" a .csv file called rideout01.csv and close.
Then upload this new file to GpsVisualizer as before. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Unfortunately it doesn't work in Excel. Excel applies it's own logic and pastes the data into cells A2,A3,A4 etc without asking any questions. _________________ Paul
It's a very small, powerful spreadsheet so it may be worth downloading even if it's just for solving this problem.
