Highways Agency - Free Live Traffic app. for iPhone

Apologies if this is old news, I've only just heard about it.

The Highways agency has recently released a free traffic-warning app. for the iPhone.

Someone I know who has tried it says that it's not that easy to find problems and that it is inferior to a TomTom with an RDS-TMC Traffic receiver, but hey... it's free!

I've got this on the basis that its free and its another tool in the box so to speak. The review in the Guardian is spot on with my experience of the app, so worth a read if you're interested.

What would make it more attractive is a more 'graphical ' feel, homing in on the information via a map driven interface. But then your up against the small screen size, which means there is a high degree of interaction needed (with pinch and scrolling gestures) to find the information you might want. This doesn't sit comfortably with trying to gain the information while on the move.

It has its place in the tool box, but perhaps not the most useful when compared to other tools.
