Can anyone tell me why I keep getting a reminder there is an update for my device (Go Live 1000) which turns out to be the map Western Europe. BUT I already have the latest (and larger) Central Europe map which I assume includes the UK, so why would I want Western Europe?
Nobody on TT's own forum has any idea - at least there's been no response to the question. My last query was also answered here long before TT experts could be bothered to suggest anything. |

Have you owned another TomTom product at some time in the past? If the answer is Yes did you use the same e-mail address to register the 1000 as was used on the other device, this often causes the sort of issue you describe - Mike |

Again Pocket GPS forums come out the champions! Thanks Mike. The answers are yes and yes! So solution? Re-register? It's a pity the (it seems from other posts) inadequate MyTomTom web service cannot recognise only your latest, attached, satnav device.

You can use any e-mail address including fake ones that you simply make up such as "navtrav@mytomtom.com" the fact it doesn't work for receive/ send of e-mails doesn't matter one jott. Each device must have a unique e-mail address, bloody stupid if you ask me but I didn't create the system!
Not too sure about the process for changing the e-mail address though, you might be better of discussing that directly with TomTom on 0845 161 0009 as I am rather warry of messing up a Go-1000 due to the inability to back it up or re-install everything should it go wrong! - Mike |

Changing your account username/email address for a device is easily done in the 'MyTomTom' section of the TomTom website.
1. Go to http://www.tomtom.com/,
2. Ensure the country is set to the UK (click on the flag icon top right if it isn't)
3. Click on the green "MyTomTom" tab at top right, and log in with your existing account name/email and password in the green drop-down box.
4. Then click on "Account details" in the same green box and you'll see links to change them. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I don't think changing his account ID/email address is going to stop the map reminders. He is currently known as Joe Bloggs, with a couple of maps to his credit. If he changes his ID with TT all legal and above board, he'll then simply be known as Jane Bloop, but still with the same couple of maps to (her) his name.
His best bet is to ring TomTom to get them to take the offending map off his account. _________________ Dennis

True!
Well done Dennis.....
I foolishly just went for "answer the question asked" rather than "think about what is actually required" _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
