My TMC traffic accessory seems on the blink; it's the non USB type.

Has anyone ever opened up the capsule, as a last chance saloon attempt I was thinking of prising open to see if anything loose/repairable??

I'm fairly certain it's accessory not the TT itself, but of course unless I buy another, I can't be certain.

Been down for week now, but did suddenly pop back into life when travelling through North Oxfordshire recently; when I came out of my meeting, and switched the TT on, there was no Traffic again Crying or Very sad

I recall mine went faulty, occasionally springing back into life. The fault was a break in the wire, very close to the egg shaped thingy. I swapped it out for the usb type.

Is it single strand wire; if break discovered, wondered if I could
make good/ seal off.

How can you swap for USB type as 720t has round not USB socket Question

The USB type is a block with USB input and output thingies. You plug your ciggy power cable into the block and the block thingy (using a short cable) into the base of the 720T instead of your ciggy cable. It doesn't go into the round hole.

The usb connector needs v8.351 software.

I recall a post where someone said they opened the old egg-shaped one by squeezing it in a vice - it just 'popped open'. Though others here were urging a more cautious opening.

The two parts of the oval "egg" can be prized appart, I use a blunt kitchen knife, there are four wires connected to the PCB:

J4 RED
J5 GREEN
J6 ORANGE
J7 BLACK

Thanks DN Wink ; there are a few more of those about on E Bay, and presumably provides power input too, as without power I just have a few minutes operating.

Your existing mini USB charger lead plugs in to the RDS-TMC receiver, there is a short lead from the RDS unit that plugs in to your TomTom, this short lead supplies the charging voltage for the nav unit and the digital data containing the RDS information - Mike

Question Question Question I'm using v8.302 on mine (and I don't know how long I've had the USB device, might have been before 8.302?).

Thanks all; looking at image of an USB RDS TMC I didn't see a socket just a plug, ie 2 plugs and only 1 socket!

Now clarified.

Still living and learning about TT.

Apparently the new rds-tmc that incorporates the antenna into the power lead is compatible with 8.351 though it is not listed - what's new!

The newer RDS receiver thats integrated in to the charger lead was released circa April 2010, Navcore 8,351 predates the release of the RDS device by at least 12 months so compatibility can't have been provided.

The newer RDS receiver built in to the charger lead will work with some of the newer devices but NOT the x20/ x30 product range unless you really hack around some files to force it to work Cool but not with a stock 8,351 - Mike
