There's so much confusion (to me anyway) as some say just copy your mapsettings.cfg across & other say copy your MapUserPatch.dat

Can someone please confirm that this is the actual/correct method:-

And from the root, UserPatch.dat.

Don't think mapsettings.cfg is involved.

Could be a bit of a problem if any of them have already been implemented, unlikely as it is!

....which I guess would only apply if you changed the navcore too?

Why do you say that?

As far as I know...

Map Corrections are involved with 3 DAT Files in the map folder: ServerNameIndex, ServerLineIndex and MapServerPatch.

BUT, MapUserPatch.dat just refers to differences in UserPatch.dat which is in the root directory. It's UserPatch.dat which actually contains the details of the changes.

If you delete either file they recreate themselves but if you do not have a matching pair you seem to lose the changes.
I have not copied across devices so I cannot say if this will actually copy your corrections from an old map to a newer one, but I have removed the root directory file which removed all my changes. When I restored it, my changes were not visible again until I also restored the map directory file.

It also needs to reboot after copying the files before the corrections are visible.

----------------

MapSettings.cfg is definitely not used for MapShare corrections. It holds preferences like Home location, POI warnings, recent destinations etc.

Don't I remember a post where you found you could connect devices with BlueTooth and transfer file information?

Because just updating to a new map doesn't effect the navcore

That's why I'm confused as everyone incl your esteemed self seems to have a slightly different slant on this

If you start (again) your own map corrections on a blank canvas,
delete the userpatch.dat & MapUserPatch.dat from all map folders.

You will notice that after you have made corrections, both of these files will become created.

IF you have more then one map on your device, you will notice that you will acquire another MapUserPatch.dat file when you switch maps, and so on. - this will have your corrections working on each map.

IF you already have a MapUserPatch.dat file in a map folder, but is different then the userpatch.dat, only the MapUserPatch.dat file data should be shown for that map.

From experience, its the MapUserPatch.dat which you want to take a backup from and move to each map.

I have not yet tested this, from device to device - mum give me my Go back!!

It is/ was possible to fire POI files between devices using Bluetooth but I don't think this capability included the MapShare files, to do this required a Go device with Bluetooth and included the x20, x30, x40 and x50 families the newer Go-1K cannot do this - Mike

Just slightly diverging,
is it published anywhere about how many folks have to had reported corrections for it to appear under the "Corrections Reported By Some", "Corrections Reported by Many" etc...?

I usually have these ticked but would be interested in how many corrections it would take to get into that pot.

One thing im also not totally sure about, is the activation of Mapshare on the device between maps, if I switch it on and tick all the boxes, does that apply to all maps or just the one im using? ( perhaps i answered my question earlier on in the thread? )
Reason I ask, is because if i turn on or off mapshare, the mapsetting.cfg file also seems to get updated.
I use a backed up mapsetting.cfg file, so when my current one gets messy i reset with a backed up one, but this wouldn't of had mapshare activated at the time.
Perhaps the mapshare preferences are kept in the userpatch.dat file?

Thanks
MPW

Another quick question....

Do personalised corrections superseed any downloaded corrections?

i.e, if i did a map correction to a road by blocking it off both ways, then i downloaded corrections, and in the correction the road was to be reversed, whos correction would win?

Maybe neither.... It might be just the most recent one that wins.
