|
|
Hi.
I am sorry if this question has been posed before, but I am asking it here to save me trawling through everything to find the answer.
I am thinking of replacing my current TomTom with a Go Live 1005 Europe. One thing I would most certainly want to do though is to add my own POI's. Can it be confirmed that this is now possible with this Device please?
Thanks in advance. |

Once its updated you can add Custom POI files to the device but you only do this one file at a time so if you have lots to upload to the unit and then keep updated it can be rather time consuming compared to what you are used to - Mike |

Here's what you can expect....
(Ignore the bit in those instructions about 16x16 pixel icons, the normal 22x22 pixel ones work fine; as do the double sized 44x44 ones like we use in the camera database). |

Hi, I am also considering a replacement TOM TOM 1000.
When you say 1 file at a time does that mean I would have to add every speed camera individually? or by 1 file would that be cameras in uk & another would be cameras in Europe?
Sorry if this is a stupid question! |

Far from being a stupid question it actually states the stupidity of the system TomTom have deployed for loading third party custom POI files to their new devices, whilst it does let you let add POI files the implementation and use of this system is crap IMHO - Mike |

Thanks for that.
In that case might I be better looking at another Sat nav, say a garmin, or does the actual navigation bit of the TOM TOM make it still the better buy? |

When I had to decide between the "new" way TomTom wanted to "control" these newer Navcore 10 based devices I purchased a Garmin 3790T, its not perfect but I am more than happy with it, sadly since the demise of the TomTom Go-940 Live in my opinion the product range has been simplified and offers less features, the "MyTomTom" PC interface was enough for me to change brand for a PND - Mike |

If you use the consolidated POI camera files as I do, then there are only five files that need replacing on renewal of the database.
Probably takes less than two minutes. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Thanks guys, I think I need to go & look at both to decide.
Its a shame that Tom Tom had to change what I would consider a winning formulae. |

As a matter of interest why have TomTom opted for the new web based Home 3 over the old style, more accessible Home 2, is there a sensible and valid reason or is it purely about control? |

The motivation is about Control. Locking the file system from user access means maps/applications can't be hacked/cracked. _________________ David |

Can I just ask - is it possible to add a new poi to the device itself whilst out on the road? ie: I get to a place and want to store it in an existing POI subcategory. |

Yes, you can.
Adding POIs on the unit works in the same way as any other full-spec TomTom.
So you can add POIs to an existing user-POI category, and you can create your own new categories too (or delete them).
You can also add a new POI location to a built-in category using "Map Corrections" although I'm not sure that other people's corrections are able to be downloaded via MapShare yet. |
