updated maps on nuvi 310

was wondering if the only way to update the maps is to purchase them grom the garmin site

some places that are obviously newer than 3 year old arent on my satnav and id like to update but cant find anywhere else and garmin site seems quite pricey

If you want full search and routing capability then you have to pay the price.

If you don't then try sites like http://www.openstreetmap.org/ and http://www.talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm, where you can get free 'up-to-date' mapping.

thanks wot are the actual differences then between the free and paid ones

and how do you download it like you would normal maps etc just download it to the garmin file?

i jsut think 70 pounds is quite a lot to lay out

Main difference as I said is that you generally can't do full address search, postcode lookup etc. Have a look at the websites to see how you download/install them. You can have them loaded along with the Garmin mapset, and use both, so could use the Garmin map when you need full routing/address capability.

sorry you did say -yes thanks shame things have to be so expensive eh-i do usually use it to find routes rather than jsut have it on generally so probably free ones wouldnt be any good to me

They appear to be 'scratch card' type thing that then give you access to download the Garmin map update . Most of the critisism of the product is slow download. This will be the case anyway, not confined to the one on Amazon. Big download = long time on a slow Internet connection.

oh right well i do hope if i buy one its not dodgy but i guess u dont know till u do yes i read some reviews i do expect these things ot be longer than normal downloads

I wouldn't imagine that it would be longer than a 'normal' download of Garmin Maps.
