Hi all.

Apologies if this has been covered before although I cannot find a reference through search.

Is there a way of selecting where you want to store certain POIs on your TomTom?

E.g if you were to go travelling in Europe and wanted to pop the memory card from your device containing speed camera data to avoid issues with the authorities!!

For a POI category to be useable on the device it must be placed in to the map folder, usually Western_Europe. You can put this map folder on to the memory card and put the POI files in to it - Mike

I think what Mike is saying is that if you wanted to, you could put a second copy of the map onto an SD card and normally run that version of the map and have all your camera POIs on it, then if you took the card out you could revert to the version on the internal memory.
(Always assuming you have a model with both internal memory AND an SD card slot.

One niggle is that if you did that, both maps would be called the same thing on the Map Selection menu screen, so in order to avoid confusion you might want to change the name of one of the versions.

You can do that by editing the .pna file in the map folder.
Open it with Notepad and you will find that, at the moment, both are probably called "Western_and_Central_Europe.pna" or "Europe.pna" in the ID= line.
Edit the ID of the one on the SD card to "Western_and_Central_Europe_CAMS!.pna" or similar, and that's what should show up on screen.

An alternative method would be to have TWO SD cards each with a copy of the map folder. One with the camera POIs and one without. Then just swap cards over when you go abroad.

Many thanks guys.

I noted the TomTom 720 internal storage is rather limited so the full Western Europe map will not fit unless you opt for the condensed version that TT prompts you to install.

With that in mind I tried the option with two SD cards and this does the trick so I'll give that a bash.

Thanks again for your help!!
