1. Have installed speed cameras and voice alerts for both the UK and Europe. It works fine. What is the procedure for installing the speed camera updates

2. Does the P GPS W camera data override the TomTom Data when they both have that camera position in their data base. On my first outing the P GPS W alerts came up twice...there was not a TomTom alert but after a while a TomTom alert appeared there was no P GPS W alert.

1. The database is updated every Wednesday.

When you want to update, you just paste the new version of the database over the top of the old one.

You can either copy and paste everything to the TomTom map folder in just the same way as you did before and allow your computer to OVERWRITE all the existing files, or, (as all the icons are the same every week), you can ignore those and copy and paste just the data files (the .ov2 files) so the new ones overwrite the old ones in the same way.

2. The PGPSWorld database and TomTom's own camera alerts work in different ways, so you can have both running at the same time if you really want. As you've found... you'll get two alerts if the camera is in both systems.
But most people decide to SWITCH OFF the TomTom ones once they have realised how much more accurate the PGPSW ones are.
You didn't say what model of TomTom you are using, but on my Go940 its Main menu / Live Services / Safety Alerts / Disable Alerts.

If you want to uninstall them completely, you can do that in Home, or by deleting a bunch of files in the map folder. Ask again if you want a list of the files to remove.

To remove them in Home:
Connect your TomTom to the computer and run Home (or it may run automatically when you connect the TomTom).
Go to the second screen of menu options - "Manage my Device"
That should (eventually) produce a page with two tabs at the top - "Items on device" and "Items on computer".
On the first tab there should be a whole list of items.
Find the "Safety Cameras" entry, tick the box on the right and then click on "Remove items from device" at the bottom of the window.

Or to remove them manually, connect the TomTom to your PC and DON'T run Home (or shut it down if it starts by itself).
Use Windows Explorer / My Computer to select and open the TT's storage memory (it will appear as a new disk drive letter)

Browse to the map folder ("Western Europe" or whatever yours is called)

The camera files are fairly obvious, you are looking for sets of files with .dct, .ov2 and .ver extensions to the name (if you are not seeing the extensions see below*)
On mine they are called:

K:\Western_and_Central_Europe\Blitzer_AT_TomTom.ov2.dct
K:\Western_and_Central_Europe\Blitzer_CZ_TomTom.ov2.dct
K:\Western_and_Central_Europe\Fartkamera_SE_TomTom.ov2.dct

Yours may be different, you may have less (such as only one "premium" one).
Watch out because there are a couple of other files with .dct or .ver extensions such as FuelStations or the one with your Map name - DO NOT delete those, or any other .ov2 files.

If you're new to all this, it may be better to let "Home" do it for you!

---------------------------------------

* If you cannot see those ".ov2" and ".dct" etc. three letter extensions, it's because that nice Mr Gates at Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to HIDE the full file names from users by default.

To get Windows to show you the three letter extensions to the file names, do this:
Start either 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' and:
Go to the 'Tools' Menu,
Select 'Folder Options'
Select the 'View' tab
Scroll down the list of entries and UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types"

(While you are there, you could also TICK 'Show hidden files and folders" too. While not strictly necessary, this will let you see EVERYTHING on your PC's and TomTom's storage).

The above is for Windows XP, I the process is pretty similar for Vista...
Click Computer to get a display of your drive letters then at the top left of this screen is a button labelled "Organize" click this then select the "View" tab and continue as above.

Forgot to say... if you are not desperate to reclaim the space those files take up, you might as well leave them on there and just switch the warnings off as per the earlier reply.

I even occasionally switch them back on.... just to remind myself how much worse they are than the PGPSWorld ones!

Thank you Andy

I did think of doing just that until as you said such times that I need more space.
