Hi
Having spent some time looking through posts about problems people are experiencing with whatever make of GPS, I am forced to the conclusion that perhaps our expectations of what they can do for us are unrealistically high. For example, Voice Control that avoids having to touch the machine and Live Services that avoid traffic jams are both lovely ideas in theory but so far seem to have generated infinitely more problems than they have solved.
So what I am wondering is, can you disable Live Services - specifically HD Traffic - from the 1000 and so make its life - and yours - easier?

Just enter an incorrect password in the settings page for LIVE Servives to effectively disable it. You might get error messages until the subscription runs out.
There might also be a way to do it by changing the settings that control what it does when it finds a faster route but I haven got my 740 at hand to check right now.
While I find the Voice Control a pain I also find the HD Trafffic invaluable. |

So what are these many problems that live services cause then?
Other than the flakey update to 9.058 on my 540 I've not had any problems.
I'm now on a 1000 live and no issues with that either until I ignore it's traffic info and then get stuck in the traffic!

I thought you could buy non-live versions of the 100x/Via series? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I bought the 1000 for the Live services, and never had any problems.
Have only had it little over a week, but the traffic service has done it's job perfectly.
With the POI's now fixed it just needs the map update. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

To me Live HD Traffic services are worth the money in themselves, and pretty problem free
If you really don't want the Live HD Traffic then as they say, a non-live version of the Via is available for less money, which makes more sense than disabling a service and hardware you have paid for _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

How nice to find so many people gathered together on one topic who are happy with their machines! I'd just spent time gazing at some Navigon topics and got the distinct impression that traffic updates are more trouble than they are worth, as they usually ended with you stuck down a ramp to the Blackwall tunnel with no hope of it opening for the next 8 hours - but then perhaps that is only the TMC version, which I also have found not worth the pixels it's written on.
I'm quite happy to give the Live service a try - particularly if it's free! - but was concerned that coping with all the data that is presumably being fed to the TomTom continuously might take its mind from its core activety.
Xstraseller, I see you've got a Navigon 40. Are you 'loving it' as much as the TT 1000? And how do you choose which of your many machines to use on a particular day? I find the thought of keeping all those different OSs and UIs distinct and operational quite daunting. I've got two cars and it's difficult enough to get into the right reverse for the rignt one!
